Mediography

Look, we're not going to gaslight anyone here. One, and only one, media franchise has provided the inspiration for Mutant Mayhem. That media franchise is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; or as it's colloquially known by many - TMNT. There have been a lot of different incarnations of TMNT throughout the decades - ranging from the very original format - comic books, to a licensed tabletop roleplaying game, several animated TV series, a syndicated daily comic strip, numerous animated feature length movies, and even several live action movies. These are the ones that have served as the main inspiration for Mutant Mayhem.

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the 2012-2017 animated TV series)
This is the series that sparked the creation of Mutant Mayhem. The new animation style, and compelling storytelling ignited the desire to create a simpler, more modern, rpg that could better deliver mutant themed adventure stories with saturday morning cartoon feel.
  • Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2024 animated TV series)
This is a relative newcomer to the franchise; but is a lot of fun. It bears a unique animation style and compelling and engaging storytelling.
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023 animated feature length movie)
This is another newer entry into the franchise; but an enjoyable one that has the right cartoony feel for this rpg.
  • Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2018 animated TV series)
This is entry into the franchise features mutants with mystical powers and some advanced improvised tech. This series leans very heavily into cartoon silliness.
  • Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie (2022 animated feature length movie)
This movie is sequel to the 2018 series; so it features the same mystical, high tech, and cartoon silliness as its predecessor.
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the 1987-1996 animated TV series)
We certainly can't omit the OG TMNT cartoon series. It's a classic; and it's the reason I ever picked up the original TMNT rpg - Palladium Books' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Other Strangeness.
